I haven't written much in the last 2 weeks -- wasn't sure how to end one year and start the next. What to write about? Focus on or feature? Instead, I spent time with Sheppie, the Hubs and friends as we made many an excursion around the tri-state area (we love exploring within our community).
As a family, we breezed through the end of the year with a moving-forward mentality; took a trip to Philly and had Playgroupers over for a toddler-friendly New Years. No slowing down for us...ever. In the midst of ushering Sheppie to our umpteenth playspace within a 30-min radius from our house, it hit me...I could start a series where I review kid-centric spaces around town. So, first up, World of Wings "WOW" in Teaneck, NJ.
You could spend hours at WOW, and we did, because they have a whole floor just for toddlers! But I'll get to that later. The butterflies at WOW are the main attraction. Get there when it opens (10 am) and on your way out, at 12:30, catch the "butterfly release." They do this everyday...at 12:30 pm. DO NOT MISS THIS. IT'S AMAZING! Wouldn't cha know, butterflies only live for a few days to a few weeks and that they like to eat fruits and veggies. See, I was listening!
This place is great for all ages...science, live animals, arcade games, creative play...you name it, they have it. But for us, other than the butterflies or shall I say in Sheppie talk, "buh fuh" house, it was all about the top-floor-toddler area. Truthfully, this play zone has nothing to do with insects or reptiles but it is the perfect reprieve from colder temps and stir crazy kids.
First stop, the bubble bonanza! Our friends 'ooh'd and ahh'd' while Shep naturally used the biggest wand he could find to blow "buhs." Sheppie's got this whole toddler language down to a T, no? We all got soapy and wet but it's cool because toddlers (and their moms) love bubbles and that's a fact.
After bubbles, we played soccer, climbed walls, drew silly creatures, dove into a gazillion balls, posed for pics in a stuffed animal habitat, played arcade games and found our fair share of Fisher Price/Little Tykes goodness. Like I said, so much to do here.
The moms even got chill on some comfy sofas as everything on this floor is in one area. The fact that you can see the mini's from the couches is a definite plus in terms of layout. There are a million and one more pics I could share but this blog has to come to an end. Sheppie is 21 months old and we visit a lot of NJ/NY kiddie spots. He loves sensory experiences; WOW is definitely up there for the 1-10 yr old set. And butterflies, of course,,,the butterflies made it the BEST DAY EVER!
Oh yea, need a lunch rec? Head to Classic Quiche Cafe. Cute spot -- homemade quiche, sandwiches, salads and soup. Super yummy. Very kid friendly.
**Grab the WOW Groupon for $11 entry fee. Kids under 2 are FREE. **There are tons of imaginary play/dress up rooms at WOW, books and arcade games for elementary schoolers.**Heard the rumors that WOW is closing but they assured us they are just looking for a new location. I hops so because this place is totes cool.
For real, its got it all...science, silliness and sure-fire fun. Go visit now.
