Last week I wrote all about my visit to Terhune Orchards. This week's fall-themed backyard playdate served as the perfect reason to slice and dice the remainder of the apples we picked for some good old fashioned apple cider.
Playgroup friend Marlana and her little lovie Miles hosted 10 moms & minis in their backyard. The babes played and ate cupcakes while we sipped on Marlana's now famous Apple Cider "Sans" Gria. Sans the gria means this Mocktail is appropriate for all ages. Shep and I definitely indulged, apples and all.
For me it was all about the sugar and cinnamon pressed rim. Crystallized sugar with a crisp apple slice? Yes please...fill-er up. Follow the easy peasy recipe below for your next family friendly gathering.
Apple Cider "Sans"gria
1-2 pears, cut in thick slices
1-2 apples, cut in thick slices
1 half gallon of fresh apple cider
1 liter of club soda or sparkling water
a few good shakes of cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
1-2 apples cut in thin round slivers
- In a large pitcher, pour apple cider and add thick slices of pear and apples. Let the fruit marinate in the refrigerator overnight if possible.
- Mix cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. Add water in another bowl. Dip the rims of wine glasses in water and then in cinnamon sugar mixture to coat the rims.
- Fill glass with ice if desired. Then fill it 3/4 full of cider and top off with club soda.
- Garnish with a thin sliver of apple on the rim.
Sheppie and I are moving onto pumpkins now. After all, it is October! Stay tuned for our adventures in the 'patch.'
