It's been almost three months since my last blog post. Blasphemous, I know. What can I say other than we have been wandering around taking in the wonderment this silly world has to offer.
Currently, I am witnessing this wonderment through the eyes of a 2.5 year old and it's utterly marvelous. My mini/me is is a real, live little being. He's unfiltered and in awe of new things. Little did I know Shep's colorful curiosity would be a perfect fit for our latest excursion to a local indoor playspace.
Are you ready to take a magical carpet ride? Enter "Catch Air" in Paramus, NJ. This ain't your ordinary playspace. First things first, Catch Air is open all day everyday. Entry price varies depending on childs age and they charge for adults. It's not cheap -- we paid $20 total to get in, but we stayed for almost 3 hours -- to me that's worth the half hr drive and price. Think of this wonderland as a mini amusement park...if your favorite amusement park was super clean, climate controlled, held random glow-in-the-dark dance parties and was basically just mind-boggling creatively designed. Oh, did I mention it's really clean? Like, really spic and span.
Catch Air isn't built around one theme. As you wander through the make-believe landscape, you will find pirates, sea and land creatures, music, movement, lights, shapes and stripes. It made me wonder, did they secretly tap into my kid's mind or, for that matter, his 30-something year old mom's dreams and record all our visions for a perfectly psychadellic world? Am I making any sense? Here, see for yourself.
And there's more...we danced in the dark with an oversized froggy (wait til you meet him), pop-pop-popped bubbles, sped down super long slides, watched a light show and got interactive with music, pictures and sounds. Trippy and fantastic.
Oh yea, did I mention we bounced on trampolines and jumped in ball pits...twirled in candy-cane tea cups and, well, I think you get the point. We did it all while listening to dance beats on the surround sound. It was an epic Friday morning in Jersey.
Catch Air was relatively empty when we were there (if you can, weekdays are a great time to bring a toddler). I'm guessing it's a zoo on weekends but bigger kids should be able to hold their own during open play. It was nice to have the run of the space to ourselves. Kinda felt like we were prancing around in a little supercalifragilistic dream world -- a feeling I needed after all the political hubub we've been going through. 'Nuff said.
If you have a creative spirit that needs awakening (and a kid to play around with), rush to Catch Air. I'm telling you, it's super cool. Just be prepared to dance like no one is watching.
In case you are wondering, Catch Air sells a variety of snacks but we brought our own (nothing messy) and it seemed A-OK with management. Prices are as vary per your child's age but it'll cost you around $20 per child/parent duo/entry. The music can get loud and they turn the lights off for 5 min dance parties. Not scary at all, but definitely sensory overload. While they do have a baby area, I recommend this space for those who are walking. There's not much for crawlers. Check out more of their policies here.
